The 2018 Pro Mazda Champion Rinus VeeKay (Hoofddrop, Netherlands) will make his first appearance in the Indy Lights car since winning the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires earlier this month. This will be the 18-year-old’s second time in the Indy Lights car on 2.439 mile, 14-Turn road course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
VeeKay dominated the second half of the 2018 Pro Mazda Championship winning five consecutive races and six consecutive poles. The young rookie took home a total of 10 podiums, seven poles, and seven wins during the season.
“I’m happy to say that I will test Indy Lights at the Chris Griffis test with Juncos Racing,” said VeeKay. “I’ve experienced an amazing and very successful Pro Mazda season with them and I am looking forward to prepare myself for the next level in my Road To Indy!”
Team Owner Ricardo Juncos said, “We are really excited to get Rinus (VeeKay) in the Indy Lights car with us this weekend. He had an incredible Pro Mazda season. It was a battle for the championship all year long, but Rinus really started taking control with his five straight wins. He was extremely focused all year and it proved to pay off by winning the championship. I know he will be successful this weekend when he gets behind the wheel of the Indy Lights car.”
