QUALIFYING REPORT

06.23.17

A sun-basked Road America outside of Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, saw the Indy Lights teams practice and qualify for tomorrow’s Race 1. The team takes to the 4.014-mile, 14-turn course to qualify for Race 2 in the morning, while racing at noon CT for the weekend’s first event of the doubleheader.

Coverage of events from Road America broadcast Sunday, June 25, at 11:30 a.m. ET on NBC Sports Network.

Ryan Norman
No. 48 Flip Size Mazda
Starting position: 3rd

Earned his highest ever starting position with a fast lap time of 1:53.4742

“We had a great qualifying. I absolutely love this track, and we knew we were fast from testing a couple of weeks ago. Just put it all together in qualifying. I missed out a little bit on a couple corners where I think I could’ve gained a little bit more and maybe had something for pole. Overall, the Andretti Autosport car was fantastic, and I’m really excited to shoot for my first podium tomorrow.”

Nico Jamin
No. 27 Synova Mazda
Starting position: 5th

Clocked a fast time of 1:53.6629 during the 30-minute qualifying session

“A finishing result of fifth is not too bad. We have (Kyle) Kaiser, who we are fighting for a championship with, right in front of us. Qualified fifth – we can race from there – but for some reason, the car did not feel quite right. I was fighting a lot of oversteer and we tried different set-ups and nothing seemed to fix it. We’ll need to go back and put our finger on what is wrong. My teammate, Ryan (Norman) had a strong result in qualifying, so we will see what the differences are in the car and try to have a good race tomorrow.”

Dalton Kellett
No. 28 K-Line Insulators USA Mazda
Starting position: 6th

Recorded a fast time of 1:53.8206 in Race 1 qualifying

“I think for the 28 program that was definitely a good run, we were farther down the charts in practice and over lunch the four of us teammates sat down and came up with a good set up to go on track with for the first qualifying session. The first run was a little weird cause we went out with a lot of understeer and came into the pits to make a quick change and it was like a whole different car when we went back out. Second and third rounds were able to put laps down right away. The car is quick, I think we have a good race car and I’m looking forward to racing tomorrow afternoon.”

Colton Herta
No. 98 Deltro Energy Mazda
Starting position: 13th

Suffered from a mechanical issue in the morning practice, and in result was unable to turn a lap before today’s qualifying session

“Pretty poor so far this weekend. We haven’t had a lot of running, just had mechanical issues that weren’t really in our control. That’s how it is sometimes. So, we’ll just go out there and do our best in qualifying tomorrow.”
