CAPE MOTORSPORTS ADDS MATHIAS SOLER TO F4 US CHAMPIONSHIP SQUAD

Lucas Oil Formula Car Race Series champion advances with team for 2017 season

ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA (February 25, 2017) – Cape Motorsports is pleased to announce the second driver of their new F4 United States Championship team. Colombian native Mathias Soler will join the squad for the 2017 campaign, coming off a strong season that saw him win the Lucas Oil School of Racing Formula Race Series championship in its inaugural season. The 14-year-old driver who lives in Atlanta, Georgia spent his development years winning kart races and championships in South America and abroad, and he has been racing in assorted US karting series for the last couple of years as well.

“As a team, we are really excited to have Mathias onboard for the season,” said Dominic Cape, co-owner of Cape Motorsports. “The two-day test we just completed went really well and we’re all looking forward to see him in action.”

Soler has been karting since he was just seven-years-old and gained great success in Colombia before move to Italy in 2015 to join Flowers Racing to run the Rok Cup Italy series. He also competed in the Rok Cup International Final in South Garda, Italy.  The annual event draws Rok Cup drivers from all over the world and is one of the largest karting events each year. Soler finished in the top-10 in a massively talented group of 80 international competitors.

Soler returned to America last year and made the jump to formula car racing, receiving his competition license at the Skip Barber Racing School before participation in a number of lapping sessions and regional races with the program, coming away with a race win and a runner-up finish in the process. Soler went on to win the inaugural Lucas Oil Formula Car Race Series championship on the strength of six poles, five race wins and three track records.

The team will return to their testing program this weekend for an official series test at NOLA Motorsports Park in New Orleans. Soler will join the previously-announced driver Steve Bamford at the test.  The opening round of the six-event series will be a tripleheader at Homestead-Miami Speedway on April 8-9.
