LEGACY AUTOSPORT SIGNS ALEX BARON FOR USF2000 ROAD TO INDY IN 2019

French driver to be re-united with Meyer and Metalloid for run at series championship

LEBANON, IN (September 20, 2018) – Just over two weeks from the official introduction of the new team, Legacy Autosport is thrilled to announce that French driver Alex Baron will join the squad as its team anchor for the 2019 Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship.  Baron will again work with team owner Mike Meyer, who was Alex’s chief mechanic with Swan-RJB Motorsports last season during a shortened season that resulted in a pair of impressive wins.  Baron will be in the Legacy Autosport USF-17 this weekend at the Chris Griffis Memorial Test on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, where he will be joined by American Andre Castro.

“It has been the fulfillment of a dream with the formation of Legacy Autosport,” admitted Meyer. “Now to be able to sign Alex for the 2019 season, I couldn’t’ be more excited. Alex has so much talent and the passion to win. I had been lucky enough to work with him back in 2014 when he ran just a few races in Indy Lights and won, and again this year as his chief mechanic to win two races in such a short season. I am excited to get things started at the Chris Griffis Memorial test and lay the groundwork for Alex to fulfill his dream of one day being an IndyCar champion.”

Baron has a great deal of racing experience, beginning in karts before moving on to win the Formula 4 championship in France in 2012. The 23-year-old made his Road to Indy debut in 2013 in USF2000, winning in his debut season at both Laguna Seca and Houston. He then moved to Indy Lights with Belardi Auto Racing in 2014 and scored a win in Toronto. Baron then remained in France for two years until he returned to the United States in 2017.  Baron showed his outright pace this year, and he and Meyer are focused on picking up where they left off.  The entire team is excited to have Alex under the tent, include the team’s sponsor Metalloid.

“We are very happy to have Alex back for the full season in 2019,” commented an enthusiastic Fred Edwards, the team’s ambassador to Metalloid. “We were only able to do a half season with Alex in 2018 and we won two races with him, including the INDYCAR Grand Prix, which meant a lot to my brother Tom and myself, growing up in and around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. We are looking for a teammate for Alex, as he will bring a lot of mentoring skills for that second seat at Legacy Autosport. We are going for the championship next year and I feel with the signing of Alex we are well on the road to obtaining it.”
